Cannon or your own: My Own.
Civilian Identity: λ•Ϡ (Lambda-Sampi)
Codename: Otter Mossheart. Sometimes changes depending on which identity she plans on stealing that day. She generally avoids using her real name, simply because people don't know how to read it, or mistake its pronunciation. (It is also a pain to type. In the Nexus, she will likely be going by Otter, though that may change depending on her mood.)
Nicknames: Not Yet, maybe in the future.
Gender: Female
Apparent age: 20ish (On a good day)
Age: As of yet not totally known. She has been dimension walking for many years, and thus has little grasp of time and space, let alone her own age. She is an immortal, and a very old one at that, so well over 1000 years is a safe bet.
Hair: Generally kept long and unkept. Otter doesn't like knots, or tangles, and will generally make some attempts to keep her hair from getting completely matted. Colour and texture/style is variable.
Eyes: Her eyes are the only part of her that never change. They are a deep, moss green colour, with brown and amber flecks.
Height and weight: Variable, depending on how tall or short she feels like being. Depending on form, Otter is unable to take obese forms, as when she shifts, the muscle to fat ratio stays the same, and the calorie requirement to sustain a shifting lifestyle means she rarely has spare calories to expend.
Appearance: Ha. Extremely variable, Otter is nearly unlimited in her forms and form combinations. Her main limitation, is that she must take mammalian forms-- she is unable to shift into reptilian, avian, aquatic (fish and amphibian) or insect forms, as she is limited to remaining in forms that suit her mammal physiology. In general, while she can take on forms of mammals with special adaptations, she will not have the organs or glands to accompany them, and will thus be less than the species she intends to imitate. Thus, is she were to take the form of say, a platypus, she would lack venom in her spurs for she would lack the glands for it. There is one exception to this rule however, in that she is capable of producing bioluminescent cells, and can make various parts of herself glow. She however does tend to take a few forms more than others, though as her forms are dictated by memory, even these will never be 100% the same. One constant in all of her forms, is the necklace and pendant she wears-- set on a sturdy, probably magicked silver chain, hangs a small ammonite that flashes many fantastic colours. As well, she is unable to take forms with long tails-- all her forms with tails are either short tailed, or the tails appear docked. She is covered with small, lacy scars mostly on her face and legs-- tokens of mistakes and lessons she has learned over time, that have never quite healed cleanly.
---Human Form Otter will occasionally take human form, though it has been years since she has done so. She prefers to take the form of a younger woman, and usually of smaller than average height. She goes out of her way to appear unthreatening, and will often take diminutive forms. Despite akin the form of a petite woman, she keeps herself very fit (after all, shape changing requires enormous amounts of calories), and is nearly all muscle. Her human skin is often tanned, though skin colour is as variable as her mood. Hair colour works the same way, although she gravitates towards browns and dark brunettes, to match her animal forms.
In her human form, Otter is capable of creating clothes to cover herself, though it takes more effort. She avoids blatant human nudity however, and unless she is near a stash of clothes, will often just form her own-- she prefers to wear earthy colours that allow her some camouflage in the forests and wildlands. She often chooses clothes with lots of pockets and folds, for her to hide things such as food and weapons in, depending on what she needs.
Otter spent many years in canine form, and thus it influenced her movement and posture in other forms. She moves more like a dog, with an economical gait that is well suited to long distances, especially at a jog. She has a smooth enough gait, it however doesn't have the gracile quality of animals such as cats or mustelids.
---Canid Form(s) Otter, as already mentioned, spent many years as a canid. Mostly out of convenience, she chose forms of either dogs or wolves, though has been known to take the for of dholes, foxes or jackals. Dog wise, she will genially take on the form of a rotteweiler/boxer cross. She retains the black, or sometimes dark brown fur, as well as the rottie markings, from the eye beans to the chest patch and socks. She has a durable double coat, with the black hairs making up the guard hairs, and her undercoat being a dark brown, not grey like true rotties. Her muzzle is shorter and bulkier, with white markings like a boxer. Her build is like a graceful crossover between the two, with a comfortable median between heights and weights of the two breeds, while maintaining the fine muscles of the boxer and the slightly heavier bulk of the rottie. Her tail is docked. The chain rests around her neck.
Wolf form is simple and to the point, though she does take pains to include white markings in it. She knows it isn't logical, but Otter is exceedingly free spirited, and generally doesn't care. She will often take the form of a fairly generic grey wolf, jackals or dholes, with white facial markings like her dog form.
---Cervid Form(s) Otter has spent lots of time living in cervid forms, mostly for convenience and humor. Her most commonly taken forms are the zebra duiker, elk and the Svalbard reindeer. Of course, none of the forms she takes are even close to being natural-- her zebra duiker form tends to enjoy multi coloured outlines to her stripes, while her reindeer form has rows upon rows of spots like some strange cross between a clouded leopard and a blue ringed octopus' spots. Her elk form isn't even really an elk, but rather some sort of cross between an elk and a kirin, resulting in a rainbow scaled creature.
Otter rather enjoys taking the elk kirin form, and calls it her "forest kirin" form. She particularly likes her kirin forms, as she feels that she connects with her "kirin" forms more. Her chain tends to lie either around her neck, or tangled in the antlers that she wears (all her cervid forms have antlers, except for whitetail and mule deer-- those antlers she never really likes the look of)
---Equid Form(s) Otter also has an assortment of equid forms, though not with much variant, it seems. She prefers to take the form of a washed out, wild bay mare with bloody shoulder markings across her toppling and sides. Her tail is always short and docked, and a jagged star rests upon her forehead. Like her other forms, she is laced with pale scars from old wounds that never healed cleanly, mostly thin little nicks here and there. She prefers a stockier, more utilitarian horse form, like a cross between a light draft and a stock horse.
Alongside her normal, horse form, she will occasionally take on a unicorn form, which really isn't any different from her horse form, other than her silvery white horn upon her forehead in place of her star. Her necklace sits tangled in her mane.
---Other Form(s) Otter has taken on a multitude of other forms, generally out of convenience. Otters, like her chosen namesake, various species of cats, weasels, martins, deer, goats, hyenas, even bats (although she hates heights) are in her repertoire of forms. A dimension walker, she has garnered an extensive knowledge of mammal like species from dimensions over, and can take the form of manticores, sphinxes, werewolves, karkadanns, kelpies and phookas.
Abilities: Shapeshifting, most obviously. Otter can shapeshift at will, with little expense of energy, and little to no pain. Because of her shapeshifting, she has a higher than normal metabolism, and heals at about triple the rate of most mortal animals. She is nearly resistant to most illnesses, because of her travels. She is also capable of producing bioluminescent cells that glow in the dark. With high metabolism and better than normal healing rates, Otter is also immortal, untouched by age, though vulnerable to death at the hands of weapons and physical wounds. As a shapechanger, she can walk through dimensions as easily as she shifts shapes, provided there is a dimension overlap in proximity.
Experience has helped Otter learn a great many things, such as the art of herbs in medicine and healing, and has given her time to develop her "people skills", such that she is a good judge of character, and a great manipulator.
Otter is also quite capable of human combat, simply because of her fear of the forms vulnerability. Her time in various worlds has been particularly helpful for her learning various techniques of martial arts, both with and without weapons. She is somewhat pacifistic however, and tends to avoid conflict when she can.
Equipment:Unless she is in human form, she doesn't use equipment. When in human form, she may use small utilitarian weapons, like knives or bows, but she tends to avoid the use of firearms.
Origin of Abilities: Born into a little known shapechanging species, Otter has always been graced with her shifting abilities. Time and experience have lent her all else.
Weaknesses:Unlike true shapeshifters, weres and immortals, Otter doesn't have anything for special abilities beyond her shifting. She is not super fast, nor super strong, she does not have super senses and cannot see overly well in the dark. She is limited in her senses to the forms she wears, and even then some forms sense are mere shadows in comparison to the senses of real animals. So, in comparison to other "special" beings, Otter is pretty much defenseless. She has a fear of high heights, flying, firearms and the dark. She is vulnerable to weapons and physical attack, provided it is mortally wounding. She has a poor sense of time, and a poorer sense of direction, brought about by her incessant dimension wanderings.
With fits of memory loss, Otter has issues with sometimes getting lost in her forms, in that she forgets who she is, and that she form she wears is only a form. It has grown so bad that she doesn't even remember her true form, the one she was born with. Because Otter has no fixed form, she can become trapped in forms when weakened or knocked unconscious-- should she ever become so weak or starved that she hasn't the energy to shift, she will remain in the form she has indefinitely, until her energy reserves and health are enough that she is capable of shifting. Otter is particularly vulnerable to mental breakdowns and changes-- her mind is somewhat fragile from years of abuse, and can make her unstable and prone to fits of temporary amnesia.
A side effect of her shifting is disorientation and dizziness-- this also comes with dimension walking as well. All of it is temporary, and comes from the change her body experiences in new forms and worlds, while it acclimatizes.
She is no mage and is magicless, and is vulnerable to most magic as well. Somewhat stubborn, Otter refuses to learn to use technology, and is unable to operate phones, motorized vehicles, and has a general dislike of machinery. She does not trust it, and feels it does not trust her either.
She has a terrible memory, as was already stated, and thus is not very good at being recognized. While sometimes a benefit, it is mostly a hindrance, as her forms are never the same twice, depending on what she remembers to look like-- it makes it hard for her to remain in one place, or friends with others, for long periods of time, as they often forget her or what she looks like.
Personalty:Generally calm, collected and cool, it is hard to draw Otter into anger, and even harder to throw her into a rage. She often takes on the role of mentor or mother, preferring to care for and protect those closest to her. Clever, it is hard to get anything by Otter, and even harder to trick her-- she learns from her mistakes, and has made many thousands of mistakes over the years to draw from. Otter is somewhat aimless in her travels, often seeking information and trying to learn a myriad of new things always. Introverted, she is quiet, and tends to avoid conflict, and dislikes fighting although she recognizes the necessity for it. Otter enjoys wearing an air of mysteriousness like a cloak, and tries very hard to never give too much of herself to others, for fear of the pain that it may cause. She can at times seem impersonal or even clinical in her dealings, preferring to seem cold and sterile, than warm and friendly, if she fears that she may end up becoming too close to a mortal being. Old, sometimes too old it seems, Otter has fits of insanity, where she breaks from reality, or forgets where she is, or who she is. Sometimes when she is overwhelmed she just gets lost in her forms, and during this time forgets who she is completely until her mind heals itself. Somewhat of an identity theif, Otter often assumes the full or partial identities of creatures and beings she has known in the past or other dimensions for conveniences sake.
Background: There is just too much to really list here, for one who has lived so long. Otter was born thousands of years ago, in a dimension that is an analog of the earth we live upon now. Her dimension is one filled with creatures and beings that were given life by the imaginations of creatures and beings from other dimensions-- it is a place of gods, deities, supreme beings and malevolent villains. It is also home to very few, if any, humans. Otter is one of a species called simply, the Shape Changers. They are a small species with various subgroups, which include plant shifters, bird shifters, fish and reptile shifters, and in her clan, mammal shifters. It was her species that gave rise to the human myths of nymphs and dryads, though often her species was confused with skinwalkers, werewolves and general shapeshifters, although those were often cases of mistaken identities, for skinwalkers, weres and shifters have been wandering the worlds for just as long, if not longer. Otter's is a species that is filled with scholars, those who remain neutral, yet observe.
As a member of her species, she spent many years of her life in her homeworld, learning valuable lifeskills that would benefit her in her travels before she had garnered the experience and skill that would allow her to dimension walk, like her predecessors. Of course, once she learned it, she never looked back, and has been wandering since. She has loved, lost, faced many a trail and tribulation, but has done her best to lead a good life, or at least, what she deemed a good life. Otter has wandered many a world, seen many beings and learned many things, and in a way fancies herself a pilgrim, always seeking to be the best she can be, or to be the bees influence on others that she can be.
She has seen the rise and fall of worlds and empires-- and makes for a fantastic storyteller and historian.
Base of Operations: Pangea, Earth. Otter is actually from an alternate dimension from earth, where humans are still in their infancy, and the animals and other legendary creatures still hold sway. Her home is one fueled by creatures formed by the imaginations of beings from other dimensions-- her species is one such creation.
Criminal Record: None in Timbre Ridge, though in other worlds she has petty theft, identity theft, fraud, assault and battery, destruction of property, and probably manslaughter somewhere on her resume.
