Player: Themascura
Cannon or your own: Own character
Civilian Identity: Steele Jason Jackson
Codename: The Hierophant
Nicknames: Steele, Steely, Jeebs
Gender: Male
Apparent age: Mid-thirties
Age: 35
Hair: Black with threads of early gray
Eyes: Blue
Height and weight: 6’1’’ 200lbs
Appearance: Steele is a tall, muscular man, with rigid, sharp features. His face is a map of varied heritage, from Scandinavian cheekbones to a roman nose. His hair is worn short and swept back, as per typical in the nineteen thirties, normally capped in a fedora. He prefers a simple slate-gray suit and a revolving door of off-white or off-gray shirts. His hands are large and callused, covered by small nicks and scars. His fingernails are clean and blunt, however. He is extremely physically fit, and makes no effort to hide it.
Abilities: Sensing patterns and finding motives.
Equipment: A plain pocket knife and a 9.mm Smith and Weston. There is a mother of pearl inlay along the grip of the gun.
Origin of Abilities: Was bitten and turned by a vampire known as Thirsty
Weaknesses: Bullets, knives, trains, cars, you know, the typical human weaknesses. The first two likely wouldn’t kill him outright, but it would definitely lay him low for a while. Bright lights hurt his eyes.
Personality: A man of few words and many dour looks, Steele prefers actions (and glares) to speech. Many people would describe him as ‘grumpy’, but those closest to him know he is just a no-nonsense kind of guy. He takes his job seriously, very seriously. In his mind he serves not only as a go between for the bosses, but also between the bosses and just about everyone else. He considers himself their bodyguard and fall-guy as well, and would likely cheerfully take a bullet or either one of them. He considers the lesser staff family, and as such is slightly less mean to anyone who has been with “The Company” for more than a year. He looks out for his own, and expects the same from them.
Background
Steele was born to a middle-class family as their third son. His father was a butcher, and his mother was a seamstress. Both of his older brothers got involved with the Irish Mafia, and unfortunately failed to live to their thirties. Steele himself took over his father’s business after his father had an accident, eventually selling the butcher shop and upgrading to a nice local bar. Three years later, prohibition passed and Steele’s business and income were shut down. He attempted to get back into the meat business, but found that the market was cornered and there was no room for him in the old neighborhood. With two aging parents to support and no other way to make a living, he turned to the illegal rum running business, selling to the Italians. The money he got enabled him to take care of his parents until the year they both passed, and then allowed him to give them both nice burials.
Shortly after his parents died, Steele was busted by the police for the first time. He spent two years in prison before he was released and went right back into the business. A year later he was caught again. This time, however, he made the acquaintance of a man who went by ‘Thirsty Jim’ whilst in jail. Thirsty and Steele became good friends, and Thirsty promised Steele he could get him a better paying job once they both got out. Steele did not doubt his new friend, despite the fact that he was a little ‘odd’ by any standards. Thirsty was released two months before Steele, and was waiting for Steele when he was released, as he had promised. The job he had promised, however, involved a little bit of… sacrifice. Thirsty took Steele to a downtown warehouse, where he proceeded to reveal that he was a vampire- by biting Steele from behind.
Thankfully, or perhaps not, Thirsty did not leave Steele after. Thirsty did not stop at a simple feeding, however. The vampire stayed, and turned his former cell-mate into another of his kind. Unfortunately for Thirsty, he failed to realize that his friend had a temper. He also failed to remember the sheer size and brute strength his friend had possessed before death.
When Steele awoke he was, needless to say, a little angry. Thirsty did not survive the reunion.
Steele then attempted to return to his old life, but found himself facing a new problem- a hunger unlike any he had ever known. There were many perks to his new existence, however. With his new strength and tireless energy he was able to produce ten times the alcohol he had before. In addition to that, he found he had a certain resistance to the typical punishments the Mafia tried to levy against him for selling to other people.
One night, as he was making a delivery to a new Speakeasy, one of the owners of the establishment recognized something in him. The man, known as the Emperor, offered Steele an irresistible deal. A place to stay, meals for both of his appetites, and a family… all in exchange for some “basic” work. Steele took him up on his offer immediately and quickly found himself extremely protective of his new family.
He hasn’t regretted it yet.
